Photo by William Mortensen Fred C. Holmes as Samuel Pickwick Esq. The Pickwick Papers Wescosco Studio 1924 Los Angeles Choice original. I have the distinct pleasure to be able to offer the discriminating collector, several original works by 1920’s photographer William Mortensen of Los Angeles, California. This exquisite, original photograph is a rarity and was done by Mortensen as part of a Charles Dickens portfolio. I will be offering others from this compilation in the coming days. American character actor Fred C. Holmes was born on July 30, 1904 in Chicago, Illinois as Fred Maxwell Holmes. He was an actor, known for The Midnight Limited, 1925, A Streak of Luck in 1925. And Driftwood in 1928. He died on March 26, 1986 in Orange, California, USA. Appeared in The Los Angeles Sunday Times as “Dickens in Los Angeles”, February 15, 1925. Commissioned by Dickens aficionado, Mr. William Mortensen was contracted to photograph actors in period costumes, from the works of famed author Charles Dickens. William Mortensen began his photographic career taking portraits of Hollywood actors and film stars. In 1924 Mortensen surrendered his life as itinerant set painter and Bohemian in Hollywood. He convinced the executives of Western Costume Company to let him set up a studio on the 11th floor of their facilities. Adopting the name, Wescosco Studio, Mortensen exploited the resource beneath his feet. He encouraged every actor who appeared at his studio to don one of the costumes from the building. The resources of the company were enormous, covering fashion of every period as shown in the Dickens tributes. A Xerox copy of the LA Sunday Times tear sheet is included with the original photograph. This rare photo would be a showpiece in any advanced collection. Thank you for your patronage. Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing. Track Page Views With.
