Antique’NEWBURYPORT Mass in 1876′ EDWIN WHITEFIELD Birds Eye View PHOTOGRAPH
ORIGINAL’NEWBURYPORT MASS IN THE YEAR 1876 FROM BELLEVILLE CHURCH DRAWN FROM NATURE BY E(DWIN) WHITEFIELD’ ALBUMEN PHOTOGRAPH OF THE ORIGINAL LITHOGRAPH. This is just a great original piece. I have had one other piece like this in the past. Edwin Whitefield is one of the most important 19th Century maker of views of American towns and cities. I have handled a few of his original lithographs and they are very rare and very collected. I have also handled one other original Albumen photograph of a Whitefield Birds Eye View lithograph. Like in that instance, I have not been able to find an original example of the lithograph. None that I can find in worldcat. The only actual mention of this piece is a photograph of that birds eye view just like this one. Worldcat shows no examples of that photograph. I did find one other example of this photograph in the University of Michigan Clements Library Image bank. Their’s is split in half and not as nice as this example. This might be one of only 2 of these left in existence and by far, the best example. A large albumen photograph measuring 13 x 20 inches. Overall the photograph is in good condition with some slight discoloration. There are 2 faint vertical brownish stripes from the original backing and also one darker spot that would have been from a knot. All from the original wood backing. The photograph has been laid down and the matte has been laid down over it. It covers the very edge of the photograph so you can not see the very bottom of the title information. Looks like about 1/4 inch based on comparisons on the Michigan one. 20th Century frame is complimentary and ready to hang. Frame measures 19 x 25 1/2 inches. Do your own research on this incredibly rare piece. See if you can find another example. Dont miss out on this one. CHECK THE PICTURES ON THIS GREAT PIECE. DONT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY. If you have any questions regarding the work, please dont hesitate to ask. Pictures are an excellent indication of condition. I guarantee and stand 100% behind everything I sell.
