Photographed in Eddy or Roswell, New Mexico by Pool & Butler. On the back in period ink is written. Some light research brought up some interesting info about his life. A Texas State penitentiary record shows that in 1901 he got convicted for stealing hogs and was sentenced to 2 years jail time. The record also gives a physical description of him.. 5’11.5, brown eyes, black hair, and left leg shorter than the right, which explains the walking stick. In 1944 Helfer was walking in Fort Worth, Texas, when he was struck and killed by a car. Cabinet card is in very good antique condition with normal age wear and foxing.
