Uncommon mammoth-plate photograph of the early coal mining town of Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley most likely taken from Flagstaff Mountain by Philadelphia photographer William H. Rau gained considerable recognition for his work for the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Lehigh Valley Railroad in the 1890’s making mammoth-plate photographs in the manner of the great Western photographers.
