Rare 1/4 Plate Panotype On Leather A Man & His Daughter In Thermoplastic Case
EXTREMELY RARE 1/4 PLATE PANOTYPE ON LEATHER – A MAN & HIS DAUGHTER IN THERMOPLASTIC CASE – When I say extremely rare, I mean nearly impossible to find another quarter plate example in your own lifetime. In fact, this is the first and only Panotype I have ever encountered in my dozen years of collecting and dealing antique photography and the only quarter plate example I have ever seen offered anywhere. I have prepared photos of the image, case and the backside of the plate to reveal the piece of leather this image was created on. If you look at the photo where you can see the interior of the thermoplastic case, you can see the faint marks where this image has always lived in this exact “Alone at the Rendezvous” case. Although this image is unidentified, I have the feeling the gentleman was either wearing the star of his fraternal order, an award medal or he was possibly a city or town official/ law officer of some sort. You have to love those checked pants he is wearing. His faithful and gorgeous daughter stood lovingly next to him and placed her tender hand upon his shoulder. She wore a fine dress and her hair was beautifully styled for this trip to this photographer’s studio. Note the unusual amount of gold accents added to their jewelry; you do not see this on any of the other Panotypes I have ever seen, definitely a bonus of this image. Panotypes were basically experimental images and were a very short lived process. I have only seen less than a dozen examples for sale and none as large as this quarter plate. Whoever the operator was, they made a bold and daring portrait of this father/ daughter duo back in the later part of the 1850’s. Here is an amazingly rare opportunity to land a one of a kind Panotype made on a sheet of leather. Keywords: Tintype, Daguerreotype, Ambrotype, Collodion, Wet Plate, Case, Thermoplastic, Union, Father, Daughter, Medal, Award, Badge, Fashion, Fraternal, Occupational. CONDITION : Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The quarter plate has some typical emulsion issues you see with this process, but nothing hugely distracting from the overall portrait. Please see my forth and fifth listing photos to observe the piece of leather this photograph was made created upon. The image resides in the original thermoplastic case. One male prong is also missing from the clasp. Although the exterior is free of chips or cracks, the case does have loose hinges and does not stay shut due to this issue. I would highly recommend you consider purchasing this amazing cased image as a solid photographic investment. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Photographic Images\Photographs”.
