This lamp revolves by means of the heated air of the lamp escaping out of the top of the inner sleeve. Inside the lamp is the light bulb in the center, surrounded by an ocean scene painted or printed on the innermost plastic cylinder. Around that cylinder is another piece of clear plastic with different silhouettes of phantom ships, which revolve or sail around when the lamp gets warm. Then there is the outermost plastic cylinder with black panes, which act like windows and protects the contents. Each plastic cylinder is slightly less than circular which may be due to the natural occurrence when exposed to the heat of the lightbulb. Once I examined each layer and seated them appropriately – – – the show was pretty perfect! I was growing attached and thought about giving this antique a little cleaning and polishing, but decided to leave that task for the new owner – – if they should desire. A moon-lit ocean, in all the beauty and softness of its color and depth of perspective, sailed by phantom ships. A graceful and restful bleeding of color and motion from which new beauties constantly emerge. The highly polished copper finish of the lamp bleeds most harmoniously.
