A SUPERB ANTIQUE VICTORIAN’WILLIAM KENT’ PICTURE FRAME a wonderful mid 19C design with four extended / outset corners, named after the famous English architect. (to fit a picture) of. This is a wonderful Victorian picture frame, it is a fabulous combination of subtle raised Acanthus gilding along the outer frieze combined with a wonderful’Egg & Dart’ pattern to inner frieze within a black shellac ebonised finish, it does have some light damages here & there but the overall condition in my opinion is very good A. Classic Victorian design with very strong corner joints this frame is entirely constructed by hand from a pine carcass Dating at a guess to around 1870 it is an impressive & stocky frame, quite opulent in some ways with this mix of raised Acanthus gilding lying within the glossy black shellac frieze with a fabulous’Egg & dart’ pattern close to the sight edge The main design facet here obviously with a frame such as this is the four outset corners making this frame what is known in the trade as a’William Kent’ after the eminent English architect, painter & furniture designer who, after touring Italy introduced palladian style facets to English interiors, furniture & picture frames, the Acanthus flower being one such motif Yes, it does have a few slight issues here & there BUT in my opinion the overall condition is actually very good & you cannot deny the marvellous decorative qualities that this frame has. This frame will really suit a special picture OR perhaps an image of a loved one; it is certainly a frame that will grace any wall Thank you for looking Any questions please ask. Condition especially given the great age; it does have some minor issues/damages as has already been mentioned, there are a good few. What I would call minor bashes, mainly to the extremities BUT these are actually in the main to a back corner edge & won’t be noticwable & I would also say that 95% of the ebonised shellac is absolutely fine with just a little craqueleur as it should be I think perhaps a couple of the couple have been re-glued over time also along with the odd age commensurate minor ding here & there as one would expect in a frame of such age Super strong corners.
